Reflections on non-conformity, beyond surgery, civilization, and society.
During our lives as Orthopaedic Surgeons and Medical Doctors we often experience situations where we dare not clearly express our views about practices which we find highly questionable, or sometimes even dead wrong. Why do we not act on these perceptions? Are we unsure? Do we lack courage? Is it because we might lose our job? Are we afraid that others might suffer or lose face? In capturing a shared essence for the reasons behind these decisions and their associated actions or inactions we will have achieved the first colloquium objective.
For this reason, we invite you to be part of a Colloquium at the occasion Roli Jakob’s 80th birthday treating practical issues of our field which will hopefully serve as an eye opener.
Roland "Roli" Jakob is an expert in the field of orthoregeneration and an honorary member of the ON Foundation Board. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday. In his long, impressive career, he has held countless positions.
From 1995-2007 Roli Jakob was Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Cantonsspital in Fribourg. Previously, from 1981-1995, he was Vice Chairman at the Orthopaedic Department at Inselspital in Bern. He has been former President of AO Switzerland, ISAKOS, ICRS and Swiss Orthopaedics.
In 2018, Roli Jakob received the Life Achievement Award of ICRS and was inducted into the AOSSM Hall of Fame. In 2021, he was selected as “Giant of Orthopaedics” by ISAKOS.
Roli Jakob has also been the author/co-author of over 200 scientific articles and 4 textbooks. Even at the age of 80, Roli is still strongly committed to orthopaedics and orthoregeneration and would like to pass on his experience to future generations.
